Since she could swipe books from her parent’s shelves, McKenna has been passionate about reading, researching, educating, and sharing resources from a variety of fields. She believes the healing process extends beyond just the physical form. She herself has been working with psychotherapists and bodyworkers for her own holistic journey since she was 16, and frequently seeks new tools for homeostasis of body and mind.
She has been a Massage Therapist, Certified Cupping Therapist, and business owner since 2017 when she first opened in Kalamazoo, Michigan. After finishing up her Ohio licensing requirements in late 2019, she opened her new practice in Columbus, Ohio in March of 2020.
No one batted an eye when McKenna immediately transitioned to massage school after getting her Bachelor of Arts in creative writing from Kalamazoo College in 2015. Her predilection for giving bodywork has been apparent from a young age. Her mom tells stories of McKenna accepting pocket change for shoulder rubs at her mother’s church choir when she couldn’t even reach their shoulders without the assistance of a stair. Her interest in cupping started in 2014, when fire-cupping was the only bodywork technique that seemed to touch the pain she was exasperating from participating in circus arts.
